In The Spotlight

Every week SSW Magazine will try to highlight an organization, group, or individual who is doing positive things in the world of expression, either through writing words, speaking with words, or pure artistic expression (in other words, speaking without words). This week our focus is on ICFJ (International Center for Journalist).
Their Mission:

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is at the forefront of the news revolution. Our programs empower journalists and engage citizens with new technologies and best practices. ICFJ’s networks of reporters and media entrepreneurs are transforming the field. We believe that better journalism leads to better lives.

ICFJ ImageOver the past 30 years, ICFJ has worked with more than 87,000 professional and citizen journalists and media managers from 180 countries. We work with strong local partners and a network of dedicated alumni.

ICFJ does more than train journalists. We launch news organizations, media associations, journalism schools and news products. With a focus on innovation, we have formed networks of citizen journalists who are using new mobile services to engage underserved communities in India, Indonesia and Ghana. We are helping journalists aggregate data for digital maps that they can use to track pollution in the Amazon rainforest. And we have organized the first Africa News Innovation Challenge to solve digital bottlenecks and create new applications for use in newsrooms across the continent.
